Studio

so we set up a studio at a friend’s party and got some studio shots, instead of the “tilt the heads together and pretend like we’re having a really good time and want to bury these photos at the bottom of our old shoebox” I thought we’d try the ” look straight ahead, give me a serious/sexy/funny/crazy look, or just be who you are and don’t move while I focus, kind of photo you want to put as your facebook profile”

Saturday Morning

in the beginning of 2008, my husband and I realized that it had been YEARS since either of us had gotten to sleep in. Since there are two days in the weekend, we decided to split them; so that I get to sleep in on Saturdays, and he, on Sundays. Very quickly, not surprisingly, Saturday mornings became a TV fest, the best morning of the week, the time to vedge ( I know it’s not a word and if it were it’d be spelled differently, I know) and let the brain cells that we hoped built up all week at school, have a long, yet painless death.

When I get up I ususally signify the end of this bliss, and they look at me suspiciously and wonder how long they have before I finish my coffee, get myself together and find the remote and say BYE BYE TV, sometimes, I don’t find it, and I have to press three different buttons, on three different machines, to turn it off.

and then all hell breaks loose.

They are so cute when they lie there, relaxing, not a care in the world, with a zombie look on their faces. (the same look I get when I watch TV at night, I do: don’t think for a moment I am any different from them)

Little Miss Sunshine

I know I am not supposed to post too many photos of my own kids, becasue …wait, why? does it make me look less proffessional? Like I’m just a mommy photographer? maybe, and I don’t let that stop me. I believe I have to point my camera at my kids and at my life and that I don’t do it enough ( their grandparents agree…) Usually my kids run away or just make faces, (that they think are funny), when in the middle of a tender moment, I say “wait… I’ll be right back, I just want to go get my camera, and of course the moment is gone, gone, gone. But this afternoon, like the whole day today that rained and we thought would be just a regular rainy in-home day, turned out to be a glorious sunny California day, and just like the shirt Zoe’s wearing and just like a ray of light in an otherwaise codish day, I got one of those rare, deep, calm, sweet beautiful looks that are just one of the reasons I am so CRAZY about my kids, and why I have to photograph them too, and share it with you.

Being 85

No seriously. I have two grandmothers who are 90 years old. AS healthy as can be expected and more lively than a lot of people I know. I love my grannies: Naomi and Freda. And I miss them too. Naomi actually learned how to use the computer, and could email, scan , attach and chat, but now, at age 90, her sight is not what it used to be..but enough about my grannies. here a COUPLE, husband and wife of more than 50 years, and as in love as they were when they met when Aaron was a life guard and Esther a hot chick on the beach. I was sent to by a local newspaper to photograph Aaron, 60 years after his glory days to find a man who at 85 years old, defies everything I thought I knew about that age, and though I swore to stretch every day, I forget. I start tomorrow! If staying thin isn’t insentive enough, let being alove be it! and lots of LOVE too.

True life Cinderella. when she wakes up, the Unicorn, Bear, and Bunnies will help her do her day’s work. And if you’re a chick like me; rent the Enchanted movie, it’ll put a smile on your face and make you realize hat fairy tales were the chick flicks of their time. ( ok, it’s a stretch , but we can pretednd that’s what they were).
